Riding Lessons and Accompanied Private Rides

At Rookin House Equestrian Centre, riding lessons are available for riders of all abilities are taught by professionally qualified staff on well schooled horses in a safe, enjoyable environment. We aim to provide a fun atmosphere in which everyone can develop their skills at a pace that suits them.

​As an approved Pony Club Riding Centre, this enables us to provide further education in all aspects of the equestrian world, from Grooming and Stable Management to First Aid or Racing Badges.

If you’re new to the sport and don’t want the commitment of buying all the necessary equipment, we can provide BHS standard approved Riding hats and riding boots at no extra cost. If you have your own helmet please ensure it is up to the most recent BHS standards.

Would you prefer a more personal hack? You could book an Accompanied Private Ride. Ideal for a more experienced rider who prefers a faster pace, or an inexperienced rider who prefers more individual attention.

Riding Lessons

Below are per person prices as from 1st November 2022 with Rookin House Instructors.

Lessons can be pre-paid and booked in blocks of 10, which gives you a 10% discount so one lesson free.

Riders are also welcome to bring their own horse to lessons, POA

Please note for all regular rider bookings you must give a minimum of 48 hours notice of cancellation or full payment is required.

Adult beginners or those returning to riding can gain confidence on sensible horses with expert support from qualified teachers. Riders have the opportunity, if they wish, of taking Association of British Riding School Progressive Riding Tests, which start at a basic level and provide an indication of a rider’s progress. Beginners do not need to purchase any expensive equipment or clothing. Our office can offer advice on what to wear and riding hats are available to loan but we do advise that you purchase a riding hat once you start to ride regularly.

Children of all ages are offered tuition which is safe, interesting and fun – learning to ride with confidence on well-mannered ponies with qualified instructors. Pony rides are available to enable younger children to gain confidence before progressing to lessons. Progression to taking proficiency tests in riding and stable management, gaining experience by riding out, jumping and taking part in competitions is all offered here at Rookin House. Also ‘own-a-pony’ days for children, subject to ability and knowledge, and during the school holidays children can stay over at Pony Camp.

Improvers and experienced riders can progress through a series of more advanced lessons, allowing them to progress in showjumping, riding out, cross-country and dressage. Practical riding tuition is supported by theoretical stable management. Opportunity to advance from the Association of British Riding Schools Progressive Riding Tests on to the UK Coaching Certificate. Tuition towards GCSE & BHS Stages also available.

Horse owners are welcome to bring their own horses in for clinics or private tuition covering flatwork, dressage, show jumping and cross-country.

Pony Club and Riding Club activities are available either on your own horse or on a RHEC horse/pony. Schooling is also available. Competitions are regularly held please visit the arena hire and events section for up-to-date details.

Educational Visits

Horse Riding is a great activity for young people and very rewarding.  We can offer a half-day session (3 hours) with a more hands on approach which includes basic aspects of horsemanship (grooming and tacking up), a ride out including instruction to make the visit an even more memorable experience. For Educational visits we can link the learning into core areas of the National Curriculum. The cost for a half-day session is £400.00 for up to 12 people. Available mid week during term time.
