Rookin House Equestrian and Activity Centre is situated at Troutbeck, a mile and a quarter off the A66, between Penrith and Keswick.Please note that there are 2 places called Troutbeck in the Lake District – so please check the map below! We are NOT the Troutbeck close to Windermere. We are about a 25 mile scenic drive from Windermere. Driving directions are given below. If using a Sat Nav please type in BOTH Rookin House Activity Centre AND our postcode, CA11 0SS. Please make sure where your Sat Nav is sending you looks like the same location as on our website.

From Penrith
From the M6 (Junction 40), head West on the A66, signposted Keswick. After approximately 8 miles, turn left onto the A5091 – Troutbeck. (There is a sign for Rookin House). *Continue along the A5091 for 1¼ miles. You will see the entrance to Rookin House on the right hand side, on a sharp left hand bend.​
From Keswick
Leave Keswick on the A66, heading East towards Penrith. After approximately 8 miles turn right onto the A5091 – Troutbeck. Follow from * above.
From Windermere
The scenic route – it may take longer, but it is usually worth it! In winter, please check the road conditions before setting off as Kirkstone Pass can be closed during bad weather. From Windermere take the Kirkstone Pass road (A592). ​
Continue up the pass. After 6 miles you will reach the top and the Kirkstone Pass Inn on the right hand side, later on the descent you will pass Brothers Water on the left. Pass through Patterdale and along the shores of Ullswater (the lake will be on your right). Continue through Glenridding and, after a further 3½ miles, turn left along the A5091. Continue for about 4½ miles, you will pass through the small villages of Dockray and Matterdale End, then – after about 1¼ miles on a sharp right hand bend you will come to the Rookin House drive on the left hand side. It is signposted.​
If you reach the A66, you have missed the turn. Turn back along the A5091 for 1¼ miles and look out for the signs to Rookin House and the driveway on the right hand side.
